2014 Divisions Criteria

As the Cape Town Tens has grown and developed over the years, the one area we are always looking at stream-lining and improving is that of the criteria used to differentiate the various playing divisions.

From the feedback and suggestions we received after the 2013 event, and in discussions with the refs and various team representatives that have approached us, we have come to a few conclusions based on what seems to be a general consensus from 2013:

  • The Light Beer Division is undoubtedly the most popular division and based on that demand, we’ve decided to add an additional Light Beer Division. Both divisions will be exactly the same in terms of strength. Enter and you will be allocated a spot in 1 of the 2 Light Beer Divisions.
  • Due to the popularity and growth of Tag Rugby, we are delighted to announce that they will be fully integrated into the Cape Town Tens going forward. (This is the non-contact option to get you fully involved in the weekend).

The Cape Town Tens tournament organising committee implores all teams to please consider the below criteria very carefully and honestly before entering a particular Division. Winning is important, but not at all costs. The spirit of the Cape Town Tens is one of celebrating the true spirit and unique culture that rugby holds dear, and their is nothing to be gained by entering a lower Division and smashing every team in your path. In fact, mismatches cause resentment and ill feeling, and almost all the (rare as they where) ‘dirty’ incidents that occurred in previous years involved matches in which these mismatches in ability as well as ‘ambition’ occurred.

So please take a careful look at the below and enter the Division you honestly feels best suits your team. The Cape Town Tens committee does reserve the right to not confirm your entry in any particular Division should it be felt your team would be too strong (or too weak) for your chosen Division. The process will never be perfect, but with your help we can make it better and fairer than ever.

Please note too that each Division will be allocated its own field again in 2014, with its own players’ area, and own referee administrator and admin team whose job it will be manage and monitor the various intricacies of each Division – this too should help ensure a smoother running of the individual Divisions.
